California poppies in bloom at Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve

Welcome

My name is Jennifer E. Johnson (Jen). I’m a Principal Investigator at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Stanford, California, USA and incoming Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, USA. I am broadly interested in physiological processes, and particularly in photosynthesis and respiration – from how they work at a molecular level to how to monitor their aggregate global activity. These topics are fascinating to me because the energy flow through photosynthesis and respiration organizes the biosphere, and understanding how this works is key to charting the course to a sustainable future. This website provides an overview of the motivation for my research, the topics of my past and current projects, and how to get in touch if you are interested in collaborating with and/or joining my lab.
